Mundell and the Euro, by Paul Krugman, in NY Times: Mark Thoma sends us to David Warsh on Robert Mundell, which is worth it just for the link to the MIT economists family tree.
Here’s what I wrote about Mundell when he got his prize. The odd thing, given Mundell’s elevation as the “father of the euro”, was that his optimum currency area analysis actually suggested that it was a bad idea given the lack of labor mobility. And Peter Kenen’s addition, which stressed the importance of fiscal integration, made the case against the euro even stronger.
